Joyce (Day) LaPorte Class of 1956
Today, I am married to Richard for almost 21 years and live in New Hampshire. I have lived in Vermont and New Hampshire since 1974. I moved to Vermont when I was married to my 2nd husband then just decided to say here.
I have 5 children, 5 grandsons and 2 granddaughters....
Wade, my bachelor son is 50 years old.
Vincent, my second son passed away Feb. 29, 2004 of bladder cancer. He would be 48.
Byron is 46, lives in Houston with his wife Bonnie and son Brandon age 21, who is a 2nd year at University of Houston.
Jill is 38, lives in Myrtle Beach, SC, is married and has Whitney/11 yrs. old, Raegan/9 yrs. old, Cullen/5 yrs. old.
Jana is 33, lives in W. Palm Beach, FL, married and has Devin/12 yrs. old, and Bryce/7 yrs. old.
I miss them living here in NH but they all live in great vacation spots.
When in high school, I was a very poor student then turned around after all of my children left home and started college. In 1999 I earned my Associates Degree and then in 2005 earned my Bachelor's Degree in Human Services with a Self-Design that consentrated in Geriatrics. And if that isn't enough, I did it all cum laude. I was soooo proud of myself.
Richard has been a bush pilot and flying guide taking clients to our sporting camps in northern Quebec for hunting and fishing trips. Owned a Cessna 206 at the time. Since then ill health has forced us to sell our sea plane. We are both retired. For years I worked as receptionist for Burlington Coat Factory in their computer office for all of their stores. I also, became a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and worked in a local nursing home for several years.
I have had both of my knees replaced, both hips and have had spinal fusion of my lower back. I have all sorts of hardware, i.e. nuts, bolts, and screws in my lower back. All of this because of a strong family history of arthritis. Several years ago, I also had a cerebral aneurysm like the one that caused my dad's death when I was a sophmore at Schertz H.S. I was much more fortunate than him as brain surgery and a titanium clip made me whole again. I was very fortunate.
For hobbies, I enjoy being on my computer, make beaded jewelry which I sell at craft shows, and I enjoy collecting postcards. I own several thousand postcards. I also enjoy feeding and watching the wild birds in our yard. Traveling to anywhere is something I like to do...anything from day trips to international trips. We went to Germany while Byron was in the Army there. We live in the country on a back road and have 8 acres. We enjoy country living and have lived here since 1986. Recently, Richard bought a new four-wheeler with all the bells and whistles but I haven't raised enough bravery to try it yet.
