CLASS OF 1961



William D. Barney

Spent 11.5 years in U.S. Navy. Worked for the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management in Idaho and Nevada maintaining communications on fire lines. Left the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management and joined the Department of Defense working as a Weapons System Instructor on E-2C. Been working with Department of Defense in one capacity or another ever since. Currently a GS-13 employed at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River Maryland working on P-3 ASW aircraft.

Tom L. Beane
Wife: Carolyn Beane

Married to Carolyn (1966), 3 grown children, 1 grandchild. Six years in Navy, 4 years with RCA on missile tracking ship. Work in data communication as a manager since ’72. Traveled to Scotland in 1992 – following Beene Scottish heritage. Enjoy fishing, crabbing in Central Oregon and Oregon coast on 16’ boat. Not retired yet, but plan to in next year or two. Attended Navy reunion Aug. 2004 in Philadelphia. Just enjoying life.


Jimette Durden

I have a BS from SW Texas State University and work in Federal Civil Service - Patient Representative – BAMC, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Frances (Van Winkle) Longley
Husband: Glenn Longley

I graduated from Abilene Christian High in 1961, SWTSTC 1964 (BS in HE) and a ME in Educational Administration in 1992. I taught Math & H.E. from 1964-1998, San Marcos CISD Coordinator for Teen Parents for 5 ½ years. I married my high school sweetheart in summer of 1964 and our first baby was born 10 mo. Later. We have 5 girls and 1 boy. My life revolves around our 5 ½ grandchildren. We have a ranch in West Texas and fly out there 1-2 times a month. I’m a Bible class teacher, raised rabbits, chickens, goats, etc., like gardening and sewing. We travel a lot. Glenn studies the Edwards Aquifer and has been at Texas State University since 1969. My sister, Barbara, and I are still very close. We can’t attend this year because my husband’s class reunion in Johnson City is the same day.
