Class of 1948

Wil Hehs
Wife: Marcella Hehs

My class was 1948. We had 16 in the class and 10 made the last big reunion (of all classes) in 1997. Our class has had 3 reunions since, with the last one being here in Hot Springs Village, AR last year. Only had 4 at that one. Only 3 are deceased at this time, so we are beating the mortality tables--must have been the clean air we grew up in. We felt our class was sort of pioneers. Started playing football in our junior year (played an outlaw schedule that first year--had service veterans on the team, etc) and the senior year was the first legal year or playing the interscholastic league. Had a great record--didn't win a game. The old gym, think it’s now torn down, was also built in our senior year, our graduation was one of the early events in it. Also did a senior class play in it. The gym also contained the first indoor restrooms for the school. Yes, we pioneered indoor toilets!!! Oh yes, before the gym, we practiced basketball on the outside on dirt. Had to adjust shots for the wind. Also went to practice at Randolph Field's gym--not the school, but the field. Randolph did not have a high school in those days, only school thru 8th grade. Most went to high school in San Antonio. Just a few tidbits about the past. Good luck with the reunion--you people have really put in a lot of time and planning. Was glad to hear that you might more in future years. We will certainly try to make one of those.
